Anticipating Carpet
by Mario Alberico

Superior
. Inferior.
Standing. Inconsiderate…
Waiting. Not important…
Outside. Ostracized.

Inside (finally). But, this is not inclusion.
I waited to talk with him.
I waited to talk with her.
All the time staring at my shoes;
            and anticipating carpet.

Inside is not inclusion.
The table and the crossed legs.
The cross looks.
I am on the bank of her moat.

What the hell am I?
Certainly not a person they want to get to know.
I am just… I am just…
Wait a minute! Am I Just?

The quizzical looks;
the rehearsed conversations;
it’s their territory;
filled with books and binders – pristine spines not cracked.

Their impressions are shallow.
They don’t care.
They believe in power of position.
I would rather be anticipating carpet.

Ginosko

Ginosko is a Greek word used in ancient times to define a deep knowledge of God; an interior union. These paintings represent Contemplation, something that every one can experience when in silence and listening for God who doesn't come in a storm, or in a fire, or an earthquake, but in a whisper. Wait for the Ruah of the Holiest. One day you may find yourself in the position of being emptied and in a moment bestowed the blessing of nothingness. Wait for it and don't expect anything.
